Elizabeth Hangan has been singing all of her life. Born and raised in Southern California she comes from a family of musicians and spent a lot of her childhood going to concerts and, of course, taking the usual music lessons; piano, drums and guitar, which helped her to learn to read music. Since singing seemed to be her "thing," Elizabeth pursued it through school choirs and talent shows, classes at Dick Grove School of Jazz, other college courses and private voice lessons.

At eighteen she began singing with some local blues and jazz bands. She also did session work at recording studios as a background vocalist. She felt that she had exhausted the local possibilities so she moved to the Los Angeles are and began attending Pasadena City College. While there, she met a wide variety of musicians and soon joined the band "Mandrill," who had relocated from New York to Los Angeles and was "putting down new roots" which meant recording an album at Capitol Records and playing some of the bigger venues around the southern California area. This turned out to be a very "eye-opening" experience, as well as a lot of fun, but after two years it was to move on.

Elizabeth soon joined another band "The Original Sin Sisters" who she worked with for the next four years. She opened shows for Joan Rivers at Carlos and Charlies, headlined shows at the Palladium, appeared on the Fox Network's Late Show.

She continued doing background vocal work and playing casual shows around town which lead to a chance meeting of some musician in the Caribbean music circuit, i.e.; reggae, soca, salsa and world-beat music. At that time she joined a reggae band and finally found her "thrill." She enjoyed the challenged of learning this new style of music, finding herself surrounded by world-class musicians. This helped her develop a more distinct vocal style. Caribbean music also helped her strengthen her approach to the other styles of music she had been working with. Feeling inspired, Elizabeth started writing and recording her own music and joined The Up Choir at Della Reese's Church "Understanding Principals for Better Living" where she was a member for two years.

Elizabeth says she has found a home in Caribbean music, but she continues to perform and educate herself on many other styles of music. She really enjoys the freedom of moving from genre to another.
